We had a wonderful evening of good food, great fellowship and an amazing water fight! Over eighty attended our Family Fun Night on sSunday evening, the 29th of July. Wet shared in some some hamburgers, hotdogs, wonderful side dishes and then finished off with ice cream sundaes. What could be better on a summer night? We also talked about the future here at LCC and what we could do better to reach our community and share the love of Christ. It looks like it is going to be a fantastic fall and that God is blessing us here at Lindside Christian Church!
Randy Penwell officially joined The LCC family as our Teaching Pastor the first week of June 2018. Randy brings with him a great deal of experience in ministry, having served for 38 years in ministries from Michigan and Indiana, to Tennessee. He and his family have now come to serve the Lindside community.
Randy will be joined by his wife Stephanie, daughter Hadassah and grandson Griffyn as soon as their house in Maryville, Tennessee is sold. Randy has two other children, Caleb, the oldest is the Minister of Mapleview Church of Christ in Bluefield, and he has another daughter, Michal Ruth, an artist and former missionary to Thailand. Hadassah also served on the mission filed in Zimbabwe for several years.
Please keep the Penwell's in prayer as they get settled into the community and as they try to sell the house in Tennessee so we can have them all here together at Lindside soon.
This past summer I led a mission trip to Peredo, Haiti with Haitian Christian Outreach. While VBS was going on, Cameron and I were going to look at a house that was built for Leston, an elder in the congregation she attends. When approaching his house, we walked beside a shack, in fact under the beams you see in the picture below...
After praying with Leston and his wife, and thanking God for his new house, we began to question what the shack was being used for. We found out that it was not a shack, but a house. Gerta and her six children live here. We found out that her husband died two years ago, leaving her with no income and six small children to care for. My heart was immediately burdened, and this scripture came to mind:
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look afterorphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
I said a quick prayer to God, and decided that we must help. After talking to Cameron and RoRo, we came up with a time frame and dollar amount to make this happen for Gerta and her children...
The next day, I was fortunate enough to meet Gerta again, and all her kids. They had been coming to VBS, but there were so many people and kids there, that I had previously missed them. As you can see in the picture above, she has not been overcome by her circumstances. Gerta rests in the promises of God, and trusts in him completely to meet her needs...
As the hands and feet of Jesus, we must help. We are obligated to live out our faith in real and tangible ways, helping others in the community of believers who are in desperate need:
"But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brothers in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?" I John 3:17
You can use the link below to make a donation to help Gerta and her children have a house they can make their new home.
Lindside Christian Church
After looking back on what happened in 2015, we are crazy excited about what God has planned for LCC in 2016!
God continues to grow his Church: decisions are being made, baptisms happening, new volunteers are stepping up, small groups are thriving...and among all of that, we are seeing a lot of traffic on our website and social media.
With that in mind, in 2016 we want to focus more on our social media, website, and audio/visual production each week. To do that, we need your help.
If you are interested in volunteering for this ministry, we certainly need YOU. Send us an email and let us know if you are interested in one or more of the following areas:
1. Website maintenance
2. Social media presence
3. Operating the software/mixer in the sound room
None of these require any experience, training will be provided, and the time investment each week will be minimal.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Recently, we went through a summer series entitled "Five to Thrive," which was based on the abundant life Jesus promised in John 10:10. We challenged you to commit to these five areas (squeeze the sponge) so you could stop surviving and start thriving:
1. Big Group
2. Small Group
I wanted to give you some feedback on each, so you can see how we are doing as a Church.
Big Group - This is our Sunday morning gathering. We have seen a steady increase over the last few weeks since vacations and time away are coming to an end and school is ready to begin.
Small Group - Our Life Groups have launched with an amazing success! We have had an average of 70% of the Church getting plugged in to "The Story" at some point during the week. The youth Life Groups on Sunday night are going great as well with huge gains in our teen class.
Connect - These are our opportunities to connect with other and experience what the Bible calls "fellowship." We have not had a lot of connecting opportunities through the summer, but the fishing trip and following fish fry were greatly attended and definite memories were made.
Serve - We have had new people stepping up to serve in various ministries, but we are still in need of volunteers for Junior Church. We are continually asking for teachers - so "squeeze the sponge" and volunteer today! (click here to make that happen)
Give - We recently partnered with Haitian Christian Outreach again to sponsor the kids at the Kaypotier school in Haiti. Last year, we gave substantially and completed a school expansion for the kids there, and we are pushing to get them the education, medical attention, and food they need to transform their culture. That is going great, but we have a long way to go to reach out goal.
Let me close by saying "thank you" to everyone who has decided to commit to the Five to Thrive. You are on your way to abundant life, a life where you are not just surviving, but thriving!

"The Bible is central to our faith, but many people are intimidated by its scope and size. The Story gives us a way to journey from Genesis to Revelation together in 31 weeks so everyone understands God’s story and how their story intersects with it."
The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how many people in Lindside and surrounding areas are actually reading it? A Gallup survey reports the average American household has four Bibles. However, research by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2008) found that only 16 percent of Americans read the Bible every day.
LCC is hoping to reverse this trend, starting with our own congregation. We believe that The Story is the right tool to increase Biblical literacy, helping readers understand God’s story from Genesis to Revelation and how their own stories intersect with God’s. Consisting of 31 chapters of carefully-selected scriptures sequenced in chronological order, The Story presents the word of God in an engaging format, reading like a novel.
The Story is a unique program providing up to 31 weeks of curriculum for our Life Groups. When accompanied by reading through the five age-related books (The Story, The Story: Teen Edition, The Story for Kids, The Story for Children, and The Story for Little Ones), the entire church can be literally on the same page for 31 weeks. LCC plans to begin the experience together on August 2, 2015.
With thousands of participating churches nationwide, The Story is becoming a movement that is bringing wide-ranging benefits to local churches. Many have reported increased community outreach, increased Biblical literacy, congregational growth and a greater understanding of how God’s story reveals the reasons for the things that happen in man’s story.
LCC would like to invite you to experience The Story with us.
